Cookie policy
Last updated: 30 October 2026
The short version: this site sets no cookies and loads no analytics unless you accept them. You can change your choice at any time using Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
What cookies and similar technologies are
Cookies are small files a website stores on your device. Similar technologies include your browser’s local storage and tracking pixels. UK law says a site needs your consent before using them, unless they’re strictly necessary for something you’ve asked for.
Strictly necessary
These don’t need consent, and the site can’t remember your choice without them.
| Name | Type | What it does | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
gp-consent |
Local storage, this site | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics, so you aren’t asked on every page | 12 months, then I ask again |
Analytics, only if you accept
These load only after you choose “Accept analytics”.
| Name | Set by | What it does | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Google Analytics | Tells one visitor’s browser apart from another so visits can be counted | 2 years |
_ga_ followed by an ID |
Google Analytics | Keeps track of the current visit | 2 years |
| WordPress.com stats | Automattic | Counts page views and where visitors came from. It sets no cookies on your device, but sends page view details to WordPress.com | Nothing stored on your device |
I don’t use advertising cookies, and Google signals and ad personalisation are switched off.
Logged-in WordPress cookies
If you log in to WordPress (in practice, only I do), WordPress sets cookies to keep you signed in. Visitors never get these.
Changing your mind
Use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page. If you withdraw consent, the site deletes the Google Analytics cookies it set and stops loading analytics. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
